The governor’s office is re-implementing a required 14-day quarantine for all individuals entering the state from “high-risk” states, which includes Texas. There will no longer be an exemption for negative COVID tests within 72 hours of entering the state. This obviously has large implications for our Section that includes El Paso.
After discussions with the tournament committee, executive committee, and host facilities, with all of the information we have, along with input from our lobbyist who is in contact with the governor’s office, the executive and tournament committees have made the difficult decision to suspend the rest of the tournament season for 2020. We will not run Section events in either New Mexico or El Paso, meaning the Yamaha Senior Junior, Club Car Pro-Official, and the Pro-PGM will not happen this fall.
We want our events to be open to all Sun Country members without fear of consequences for breaking any state or local mandate. The committees have determined that we will not be able to run any event in either New Mexico or El Paso where that will be a reality for the immediate future.
The tournament committee and Section staff will be working the remainder of the year on the 2021 schedule, including potentially some extra events next spring to make up for the lost events this season.
As far as scheduled pro-ams and local events, it is the advice of the Section officers that facilities adhere to the public health order. If professionals do decide to host their own events, they will not be sanctioned by the Section.
If you have any questions regarding these updates, please reach out to the Section office, the executive committee officers, or your tournament chair.
